Dr. Ana Olga Mocumbi, cardiologist and lead investigator of HLB-SIMPLe’s research project in Mozambique (SCALE SAIA-HTN), delivered remarks at the formal launch of the global PEN-Plus Partnership strategic plan at the UN General Assembly in New York City in September. The event was held to celebrate the partnership’s collective achievements in integrating care for people living with severe, chronic NCDs (such as type 1 diabetes, sickle cell disease, and rheumatic and congenital heart disease) across 14 countries and to affirm a strategic path to accelerate progress in future years.
Over 100 guests attended the launch event, including leaders from WHO and UNICEF, partnership participants, academics, government representatives, clinicians, policymakers, advocates, patients, and funders.
Dr. Mocumbi serves as co-chair for the NCDI Poverty Network and is deeply committed to addressing neglected cardiovascular diseases and improving health outcomes for underserved populations.
